The goals kept coming in the game between San Marcos and Austin-Bowie. Unfortunately for the Lady Rattlers, the goals went into their net. The Lady Dawgs outplayed San Marcos from the opening whistle, defeating the Lady Rattlers 6-0 in District 25-5A action.

San Marcos was coming off a strong showing in the East Central Tournament in San Antonio. The Lady Rattlers tied in the championship game, but lost in the ensuing shootout.

Bowie, one of the best teams in the state, came out on fire against San Marcos. The Lady Dawgs scored two goals within the first five minutes of play. Alex Prince and Nora Skelton each scored on an one-timer from right outside the 18-yard box.

While Bowie scored goals at will, San Marcos couldn’t manufacture any type of run. The Lady Dawgs pressured the Rattlers into mistakes and the San Marcos defense was overpowered.

“It was one of those days,” head coach Sean Dickson said. “Some days you hit the goals with every shot. Other days you don’t”

When the second half began, Rattler goalkeeper Amanda Motomochi was pulled in favor of Amy Marlow. Motomochi was subjected to a bevy of shots, and Marlow didn't fare well either.

The goals continued to pour in as Bowie extended their lead. Prince added another, as did Skelton. Jenna Sansing tallied one and Alyssa Smith, who contributed two assists, got a goal on the board.

San Marcos did little in the Lady Dawgs’ defensive end. The Lady Rattlers couldn’t open up any scoring lanes and their shots were either weak or pushed wide.

“We need to stress that we have to possess the ball a little bit more in the opposing end,” Dickson said. “Today was definitely a reality check for our team.”
