Rebels, Tivy meet in area series

High School Baseball

By Tyler Mayforth
Daily Record Sports

Kyle When a team can have ample production out of opposite ends of the lineup, it will be tough to beat. When the same team has a choice of three different starters to use, it’s going to be even tougher to beat.

So far this postseason, the Hays baseball team has spread around the offense and different pitchers have been getting a taste of the playoffs. The Rebels beat Dripping Springs in the third game of their best-of-three series, thus setting up an area final between them and Kerrville-Tivy.

In the first game of the series against the Tigers, Nick DeSantiago and Clayton Rogers carried the offense while Paul Breyfogle anchored the rotation. After the Rebels were unable to get it done in the second game, Luke Guerrero and Clayton Rogers paced the team with their bats and arm, respectively.

The Antlers were awaiting the winner of the Hays-Dripping Springs game, since they had a bye. Tivy finished first in District 27-4A, edging out Boerne.

Tonight, the Rebels and Antlers will open their best-of-three series at Blossom Field, part of the Northeast ISD. Hays will likely send Paul Breyfogle to the mound again, in hopes of getting him to repeat the magic he had against Dripping Springs.

All that is uncertain is which part of the lineup is going to step up for the Rebels in this series. If the last series was any inkling, it could be a different set each game. That’s the way Hays wants it.
