Bobcat women take 2nd

The Texas State women’s track and field team scored 148.50 points and had won four events to finish in second place, while the Bobcat men placed sixth at the Southland Conference Championships last weekend at Sam Houston State’s Bowers Stadium.
Texas State’s Rebekah Vickers won the women’s pole vault after clearing 12 feet, 71⁄2 inches and Alaysha Ford won the women's triple jump with a wind-aided jump of 39-5 1⁄4 Sunday. Valerie Hancock won the women’s high jump after clearing 5-8 3⁄4 on Saturday after Tenley Determan won the women’s 10,000 meters with a time of 38 minutes, 24.07 seconds Friday night.
In the men’s division, Jonathan Ochoa won the javelin with a throw of 208-4 to lead the Bobcat men, who finished with 75 points. Michael Webley was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.90 and Kemuel Morales finished second in the men's shot put with a throw of 57-1 1⁄2. Gatis Spunde finished in third place with a time of 51.38 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.
Iris Darrington registered fourth-place finishes in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes with a legal time of 11.81 seconds in the 100 meters and a wind-aided 23.90 seconds in the 200 meters. Jasmine Walls of UTA won both races. Liat Anav also finished in fourth place with a time of 1:03.36 in the women's 400-meter hurdles, just ahead of teammate Crystyne Hatfield's fifth-place time of 1:03.75. Texas State also posted a third-place time of 3:49.03 in the women's 4x400-meter relay.
In addition to Vickers winning the pole vault, the Bobcats’ Jennifer Matthews had a fourth-place vault after clearing 12-1 1/2 inches. Ashley Austin finished third in the women’s triple jump with a wind-aided mark of 39-3 3⁄4. In the women’s discus, Katie Hanie was the runner-up with a throw of 147-10, while Jiovanna Martinez finished in fourth with a throw of 142-7 inches.
Kellie Van Vleet finished third in the women’s javelin with a throw of 129-5, while Danete Wright finished fourth in the women's heptathlon with 4,708 points.
In the men's pole vault, Dmitri Kabakov finished in fourth place after clearing 16-3⁄4 on his second try, while Casey Cummings finished in fifth place after clearing the same height on his third attempt. Jarrod Buddin finished in sixth place after clearing 15-7.
Kabakov also finished in fifth place after scoring 5,992 points in the men’s decathlon.
Sam Houston State took the women’s title with 175.5 points, while Texas state followed with 148.5. Texas-San Antonio claimed its first men’s title since 2001 with 138.5 points, nine points ahead of Southeastern Louisiana. It was the Roadrunners’ first indoor/outdoor sweep in school annals.
