Wimberley’s annual rodeo begins tonight

Wimberley A Hill Country tradition continues this weekend as Wimberley prepares to host the 62nd annual Fourth of July Rodeo at the VFW Rodeo Grounds.

The annual holiday rodeo will feature a Pro-Open competitions sanctioned by the Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association tonight and Friday night, while the Professional Bull Riders Tour will make a stop on Wimberley night.

Once the largest outdoor rodeo in the world, the event is still one of the most anticipated rodeos among cowboys and true followers of the sport.

Thursday and Friday’s compeition will include bareback bronc riding, calf roping, team roping, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling and women’s breakaway roping.

On Saturday, the PBR-sanctioned bull riding event will feature 45 of the circuit's finest riders and bulls in a four-round elimination tournament as a part of the U.S. Smokless Tobacco Challenger Tour. Also, former PBR World Champion Cody Hart will be on hand to sign autographs.

The Women’s Professional Rodeo Association will also hold a barrel racing competition Saturday night.

General admission tickets for the July 5-6 rodeo are $15 for adults and $10 for children and may be purchased at the gate.

General admission tickets for the July 7 PBR and barrel racing championship qualifying event are $20 and $10 at the gate.
