Rattlers fall to Antlers

San Marcos drops third-straight district game

By Randy Stevens

Kerrville The San Marcos Rattlers couldn't find a way to contain Kerrville-Tivy running back Quincy Kibbett and an explosive Tivy offense as the Antlers ran past San Marcos for a 42-28 win Friday night at Antler Stadium.

Kibbett was king on and off the field. Prior to the game, the senior running back was named homecoming king. During the game, he was running all over the San Marcos defense. Kibbett finished the game with 231 yards rushing on eight carries, caught three passes for 86 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Kibbett really caught fire in the second half, starting with a 75-yard kickoff return to start the third quarter. San Marcos (2-4, 0-3) answered back quickly on its next drive when quarterback Aaron Canady broke free on a 70-yard keeper, evening the score at 21-all.

But Kibbett and Tivy (5-1, 3-0) took control from there. Kibbett hauled in a 37-yard scoring strike from quarterback Johnny Manziel, and scored again minutes later after breaking free for a 52-yard run that set up his 5-yard score.

Kibbett and Manziel hooked up again early in the fourth quarter when he scored on a 47-yard pass play from Manziel to give the Antlers a 42-21 lead.

San Marcos pushed the ball inside the Antlers' 10-yard line twice in the second half, but was stopped on failed fourth-down conversions each time.

That turned out to be critical after the Snakes posted their final score with 3:54 left in the game. Canady connected with Ryan Schweers on a deep route for a 45-yard touchdown pass, but it was too little, too late.
