San Marcos — Texas State’s bats were just heating up and then cooled down rather quickly.
The Bobcats were coming off eight wins in their last nine games, including a 4-2 victory in nine innings Sunday afternoon against McNeese State, but ran into an unexpected force yesterday in Lubbock.
No, it wasn’t the overwhelming power of the Texas Tech pitching staff.
It’s snow.
A wintry mix forced the cancellation of Texas State’s doubleheader with the Red Raiders which was originally set to start at noon.
It’s an unwelcome postponement for the Bobcats, as they were ready to make some noise against another opponent from the Big 12. Texas State recently took out No. 22 Baylor at Bobcat Field last week.
The Bobcats didn’t continue with the momentum in the first game with McNeese (a 3-1 loss), but bounced back to deal the Cowgirls two consecutive losses (5-1 and 4-2).
Texas State went into extra innings last Sunday, but freshman pitcher Anne Marie Taylor locked down McNeese in the final two innings. Taylor pitched two-plus inning and only allowed two hits.
The Bobcats gave Taylor all the room she needed with two runs in the ninth. Anna Hernandez led off with a double and later scored on an RBI single by Haley Lemons and then Leah Boatright touched home following a safety squeeze by Jenna Emery.
Texas State returns to Bobcat Field this weekend against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
