San Marcos —
Texas State bought itself a little bit of wiggle room in its search for a new head coach.
The Bobcats announced the addition of a search firm — Parker Executive Search — to help them narrow down and interview candidates.
“The University is sharing the names of any candidates already identified with the search firm for consideration along with others identified by the firm,” the athletic department said in a press release.
Parker Executive Search is executive search firm based in Atlanta, Ga. The company began offering its services in 1984.
Along with helping Texas State locate a new head coach, Parker Executive Search has aided several other searches. Iowa State, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee State and the University of Nebraska have all used Parker’s services in naming a new head football coach.
Parker Executive Search isn’t limited to football as its also worked its magic for colleges in their searches for athletic directors and head basketball coaches.
“The University’s goal is to find the right coach for Texas State and to name that coach as soon as possible after the first of the year to maximize that coach’s opportunity for successfully completing the recruiting process,” the release said.
As of Dec. 20, coaches will be in a recruiting dead period until Jan. 3. During the “dead period,” coaches can only contact recruits via phone calls. No in-house or on-campus visits are allowed.
The Bobcats don’t have much time to search for a head coach as they have a little more than two weeks until 2011. Former head coach Brad Wright was fired Nov. 22, 24 days ago.
Texas State Director of Athletics Dr. Larry Teis has declined multiple interview requests from the Daily Record and University President Dr. Denise M. Trauth canceled a Wednesday interview at the last minute citing the eventual press release.
