Chelsea Bornemann shines Junior Olympic Whitewater Festival
Chelsea Bornemann, an 11-year-old kayaker from Wimberley, has returned from Wausau, Wisc., where she competed in the Cub Cadet Division of the Junior Olympics Whitewater Festival held July 7-13.
Competitors from America and Canada competed by age group in the different venues during the week to gain a spot in the finals held July 12-13.
Chelsea won four gold and one silver medals by finishing first in the Extreme Slalom Sprints, Wild Water Sprint and Classic (combined), Junior Olympic Slalom and the Free-Style event. She finished second in the Boater Cross race.
Chelsea was also honored by being named to the 2008 National Junior Olympics Cadet
Slalom Team and the 2008 National Junior Olympics Cadet Free-Style Team .
Chelsea trains and races with the Red River Racing Team from San Marcos and her team won third in totla points. They practice at Rio Vista Dam in San Marcos.
