Set some goals before the season gets going

San Marcos — With all the rains we’ve had recently, we should have a beautiful spring green up, so its time get out those sticks and head to the range and course.

Prior to starting the season try setting a few goals; whether it is to work harder on a particular part of your game, play in more tournaments, play more consistent, etc.

I usually set my calendar for events that are coming up, then plan to practice and play prior to those events. I like playing a practice round on the course that the tournament will take place.

When setting goals, make sure they are realistic.

Minimize your really bad shots that lead up to making a decent golf game into a bad golf game. You can minimize those bad shots by taking more time working on that part of your game that is suspect. If you have trouble with putting, then spend most of your practice time on putting.

Driving the ball is so important to get off to a good start each hole and if this is the part of your game that lacks confidence then try controlling your power and work more on the mechanics of the swing with your driver. Your goal then would be to hit more fairways with control by swinging with less power. Do not go for the home run when you are just trying to keep the ball in play.

Analyze your game after each round to see if your goals are being met. Don't forget that goals can always and should be changed along the way as along as your game keeps improving.

Golf is very challenging and has great rewards.

Enjoy your experience on the course and keep working to make your game the best it can be.

Join us on President's Day, Monday February 15th. $25 per person + tax for greenfee, 1/2 cart 18 holes, and range balls. Call today for a tee time 512-353-1665.

See you on the course.
