San Marcos — The San Marcos Rattler varsity soccer team will try to keep its unbeaten mark in district play in tact tonight when the squad hosts intra-county rival Hays for a 7:45 p.m. game at the SMHS soccer field.
San Marcos enters tonight’s game with a 3-0-1 record after recording a tie against Seguin at home last Friday. Prior to the tie, the Rattlers had scored three consecutive shut-out wins, beating Lehman (2-0), New Braunfels-Canyon (1-0) and Canyon Lake (3-0).
San Marcos is off to one of its best starts in many seasons with a 5-2-1 record.
Hays brings in a district record of 3-1-0 after suffering its first district loss Friday night at Dripping Springs.
The Rebels’ other district wins were against Canyon Lake (5-1), Wimberley (10-0) and Lehman (5-1). The Rebels are 3-5-0 overall.
Parker Thorton and Cody Ramos are the Rebels’ top two scoring threats, while Luke Adams has done a sound job in goal for Hays.
In other District 51-4A games, Wimberley will host Lehman, Dripping Springs visits Seguin, and Canyon Lake visits New Braunfels-Canyon.
Dripping Springs currently holds first with a 4-0 record, followed by San Marcos in second place.
Lady Rattlers visit Hays
The San Marcos Lady Rattlers enjoyed a solid start to the season with a winning record before entering District 51-4A play,
Now the Lady Rattlers are finding it tough to come though in victorious fashion. SMHS scored its first district win with a 2-0 shutout at Seguin last weekend, and have loses to Canyon Lake and New Braunfels-Canyon.
The Lady Rattlers will attempt to ride that momentum into tonight’s 7:45 p.m. road game at Hays’ Bob Shelton Stadium.
San Marcos opened district play with a 1-1 tie against Lehman.
Jamie Williamson and Gina Misiazcek lead the Lady Rattlers offense up front, while SMHS has also benefited from solid play at goal by Brittany Murphy.
Hays enters tonight’s match with a 2-1-1 mark in 51-4A and is 5-5-2 overall.
In other District 51-4A girls action, Lehman will play host to Wimberley, Dripping Springs travels to Seguin and New Braunfels-Canyon visits Canyon Lake.
The Lady Lobos are coming off a 4-0 loss to New Braunfels Canyon, allowing their district record to slip to 0-2-2. Lehman is 1-8-3 overall.
Wimberley, on the other hand, is coming off a 1-1 tie at home against Canyon Lake.
