High School Baseball: Snakes go 1-3 at Brenham

From staff reports

Brenham — San Marcos knew it would be difficult to emerge from the Brenham tournament unscathed.

The Rattlers were set to duel with several playoff-caliber teams and face next-level pitching. If nothing else, it would give San Marcos an idea of where it stands at this point in the season.

After three games in Brenham, the Rattlers know they’re headed in the correct direction but still have some work to do.

San Marcos went 1-3 in the tournament, posting a win in its first game against Houston Westbury but falling to Brenham, Houston Lamar and Santa Fe.

“I told my guys we’re going to be better off playing these teams than not,” Rattlers head coach Bryan Webb said. “I’m seeing a lot of positive out of these games and it’s something we can build on.”

San Marcos brought out the bats against the top-ranked Cubs and Westbury.

The Rattlers were unable to match Brenham’s firepower (18 runs) but scored seven against the top team in Class 4A. San Marcos beat up Westbury, 10-1, before falling to Lamar, 13-4 and Santa Fe, 8-0.

“It was a tough tournament, but we’re going to get this thing turned in the right direction,” Webb said.
