San Marcos — The San Marcos High School softball faced off against some tough competition at last weekend’s Bay Area Classic in Corpus Christi.
Tonight, the Lady Rattlers are hoping it all pays off as the team opens District 17-4A play with a 7 p.m. game at Del Valle. The contest was originally scheduled for Monday, but was postponed until today thanks to the wet weather.
The Lady Rattlers closed tournament play with a 3-2 win over Kerrville-Tivy last Saturday, giving the team a 3-2 record at the Classic.
Jessica Villalpando picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Rattlers and is the expected starter for tonight’s game.
It’s the beginning of what will be a very busy week for the Lady Rattlers, who host the annual SMHS Spring Break Classic starting Thursday. The next day the Lady Rattlers will host a district game against Elgin, before returning to tournament play on Saturday.
“It’s always a tough stretch for us and it always tests our stamina,” SMHS head coach Cathy Stoughton said. “We will know a lot more about ourselves after this week.”
Other area teams that will be playing in the SMHS Spring Break Classic include Lehman, Hays and Wimberley.
