Dripping Springs — The San Marcos had three athletes turn in strong showings at the Region II Powerlifting meet last weekend in Dripping Springs, with senior Kristian Codgill advancing to the state meet set for March 27 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.
Codgill placed second in the 148-pound weight class with a total of 1,175 pounds. He squatted 520 pounds, bench pressed 275 and topped out at 395 pounds in the deadlift.
Pablo Nieto competed in the 181-pound class where he took fifth place. He squatted 520 pounds, benched 295, and puled up 515 on the dead lift for a total of 1,350 pounds.
Daniel Nieto placed fourth in the 148-pound weight class, with 375 on the squat, 275 on the bench and 395 with dead lift for a total of 1,045 pounds.
Lehman High School placed five lifters in the state meet as the girls and boys team each finished third overall in the standings.
For the boys, David Garza won his weight class, Brandon Alford placed second, while Jaco Torres fell into a three-way tie for second, but will not advance to the state meet after losing the tie-breaker on body weight.
Jon Frasier took third in his class, while Brandon Scott and Josh Ramirez also competed in the meet.
Michaela Castillo placed second in the girls division to qualify for state, while Shelbi Snyder also qualified for state, Sheila Martinez won a tie breaker on body weight to qualify for state. Also competing were Shannon Pickett who missed state by five pounds, Martha Ochoa and Adrieana Martinez.
The girls will be traveling to Corpus Christi on March 19-20 for their state meet. The boys travel to
Abilene on March 27 to compete in the state meet.
