San Marcos — Lehman High School senior Bri (BriAnna) Garza was recently awarded a basketball scholarship, and will play at William Jewell College next year.
Garza played point guard and shooting guard for the Lady Lobos as a three-year starter.
William Jewell College boasts a winning women's basketball program under head coach Jill Cress. This season’s Cardinal team won the HAAC conference championship, giving the women's team an automatic bid to the NAIA Division I National Tournament.
The conference champion Cardinals are currently 26-7.
Garza stands five-feet, eoight inches tall and averaged 17.5 points per game her senior year along with 5.5 assists per game and 5.5 rebounds per game. Bri finished with an impressive 1,226 career points in high school. She was selected First Team All-District and All-Cen-Tex her junior and senior years, and was honorable mention All-District her sophomore year. She was also selected Academic All-State and has made several all-tournament teams throughout her high school and club basketball career.
Garza currently maintains a 3.67 GPA in the classroom and is a member of the National Honors Society.
It's no surprise she was voted 'Most Talented Senior Girl' this year at Lehman High. Bri's parents, David and Terri Garza, helped develop her basketball savvy, and are very proud and excited for their daughter.
“Bri did a great job this year. She knew deep in her heart that she was going to play in college and her hard work on the court and in the classroom helped her earn this scholarship. We're very proud of her," Terri Garza said.
Garza plans to study sports psychology along with music education. She was also the drum line captain for the Lehman band in her spare time.
