Lake Charles, La. —  If Texas State needed a reason to wake up in its games with McNeese State Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats got it in the first game of the doubleheader.

The Cowgirls used three runs in the sixth and seventh inning to hand Texas State its second loss in Southland Conference play.

In the second game of the twin bill, the Bobcats’ bats continued to sleep, but broke out in the fifth inning in a big way. Texas State posted five runs on five hits and it kept McNeese at bay in the 5-1 win.

The biggest hit for the Bobcats was Anna Hernandez’s mammoth home run on a 2-1 count. Hernandez, a freshman from Hays High, now has five home runs this season.

Texas State got solid pitching in the first game from Chandler Hall, but control still looks to be a problem for the sophomore, as she gave up another home run in the 3-1 loss. Anne Marie Taylor threw a complete game in the second game, scattering six hits and striking out five.

The Bobcats wrapped up the series with the Cowgirls Sunday afternoon at noon.
