Goodnight football roundup 11/1

San Marcos — From Staff Reports

Both Goodnight eighth-grade teams were victorious Tuesday night, scoring big wins over Barton Middle School. The B team scored a 36-8 win, while the A team won, 30-14.

Alex Ormsby sparked the Rattler B team attack with touchdown runs of 79 and 42 yards, Andrew Mendoza scored twice and Jaime Maldonado and Jeremy Guerrero added a touchdown each.

The highlight of the game happened when Michael Hernandez stripped the Bobcat defender and ran the ball 45 yards for another Rattler touchdown.

It marked the sixth victory for the Rattlers and sets up the showdown with cross-town rival, Miller which is also undefeated on the year.

Justin Tate led the Goodnight eighth-grade A team by wearing down the Bobcats with his pounding running power and scoring one touchdown.

Alex Saldana came through with a touchdown and a two-point conversion for the Rattlers, but the big play came with 30 seconds left in the half when Sam Smith located Rene Robles in the back of the end zone for a touchdown reception. Robles tipped the ball, and fell to the ground he latched on to the ball for the score, making the score 20-8. Robert Rocha and MJ Ousey finished off the scoring in the fourth quarter putting the game out of reach.

Defensively, the Rattlers had an interception by MJ Ousey and a big hit by Lane Ezell. The A team is now 5-1 on the season as it prepares for Tuesday’s Rattler Cup showdown against Miller.

Goodnight 7th A shuts out Barton

The Goodnight seventh-grade A team jumped on Barton often and early on its way to a 38-0 win Tuesday night.

Manuel Salazar got things started for the Rattlers with a touchdown in the first and second quarters, as Jacob Champion finished the first half with a 40-yard touchdown run.

Goodnight scored twice in the second half with Eric Villalpando reaching pay dirt on a 20-yard run and Elton Gil blasting through the middle of the line for a 35-yard score.

Preston Natal, Elton Gil and Manuel Salazar each scored two-point conversions for the Rattlers.

Helping the Goodnight defense post the shutout were Natal with three interceptions and James Junek with three sacks.

The win upped the A team’s record to 3-2-1 on the season as the team prepares to play Miller Tuesday night at home. Kickoff for the A team is 6:45 p.m.

Goodnight 7th B blows out Barton

The Goodnight seventh-grade B team also topped Barton in lopsided fashion with a 44-0 victory.

Chris Gonzales scored three touchdowns for the Rattlers, while Carlos Villanueva came through with two scores. Alex Aparicio scored the final touchdown of the game, while Jaime Perez was able to convert the two-point conversion.

Goodnight running backs benefited from solid blocking up front from linemen Julian Munoz, Joseph Soto, James Perez, Jacob Puentes and Juanjose Quijano.

Helping the defense pitch a shutout was the play of defensive linemen Matthew Delgado, Clark Elwell, Ivan Rodriquez and Drake Costilla, who did a nice job meeting Barton’s running backs at the line of scrimmage.

Defensive highlights came from Carlos Villasona, who cane through with three hard hits for losses.

The Goodnight B defense has allowed only six points this season.

Goodnight improved to 6-0 with the win and will put its perfect record on the line Tuesday night with a 5:30 p.m. home game against Miller.
