San Marcos — High school basketball fans rejoice, the 2009-10 season begins tonight.
There are four games in the area, but the one of biggest local interest is San Marcos hosting Austin High. It will be the Lady Rattlers’ first game under new head coach David Norris.
San Marcos welcomed Norris as head coach in June and he immediately went to work trying to condition his Lady Rattlers for a long season in 2009-10. Norris won several district championships while at Brenham, Columbia and Leakey and expects nothing less at San Marcos.
“I was looking for the right job,” Norris said in June. “It had to be something that appealed to me and San Marcos had always been one of those schools that you circled, if the opportunity comes around, this is one of the schools where I’d want to coach.”
Norris inherits a team that was one game out of the playoff hunt in 2008-09. The Lady Rattlers are young (seven juniors) but will gain experience as the year progresses.
Tip-off is tonight at 7 p.m. in the Snake Pit.
