Running and Fitness: Trek Women Series half marathon coming Dec. 13
The 2009 Trek Women Series, with events in eight markets across the United States, is celebrating its season finale with a Holiday Half Marathon in San Marcos on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 8 a.m. at the Tanger Outlet Mall.
The Trek Women Series is the only major women's Series created by women, run by women, exclusively for women.
“The Holiday Half Marathon is a perfect ending to a fabulous inaugural year of the Trek Women Series,” Maggie Sullivan, Series Director, said. “Our events are about celebrating — celebrating women, celebrating achievement, and, with our final event for 2009, celebrating the holidays.”
Sullivan is at the forefront of creating opportunities for women in sports. The Philadelphia Inquirer recognized her as the “The Grande Dame of Women's Triathlons.”
As a principal of The Xxtra Mile LLC, Sullivan is going the extra mile to create new and exciting women-only active lifestyle events.
“For the Trek Women Series, I am privileged to be working with a team of talented entrepreneurs who have collectively delivered fabulous active lifestyle experiences to hundreds of thousands of women throughout the country for 19 years,” Sullivan said. “We are building on our collective experience to bring women fun and supportive fitness opportunities. We know how to deliver what women want.”
Legendary Triathlon Hall of Famer, Ironman Master's world-record holder and famed distance runner, Sally Edwards is also on board. Edwards is the Trek Women Series Chief Inspiration Officer and will be on hand at the Holiday Half Marathon event.
“My role is to help women reach inside themselves and find what it takes to reach their fitness goal,” explains Edwards. “The Holiday Half Marathon is a perfect event, with the variety of distances being offered, for women to challenge themselves, no matter their fitness level, while having fun in a supportive environment.”
It’s the eighth and final event for the 2009 Trek Women Series season will feature a first ever Holiday Half Marathon (including 10K and 5K distance Races).
Participants are encouraged to go to www.trekwomenstriathlonseries.com to register as soon as possible, as space is limited. For further information, call toll free at (877) 221-9665 or send your questions to info@trekwomenstriathlon.com
The Trek Women Series is dedicated to providing women with every opportunity to support themselves and their individual causes.

On Race Day, a food drive will benefit The Hays County Food Bank. A Toy Drive will be conducted as well.
