San Marcos — Local lifters from the San Marcos Athletic Club traveled to Austin to compete in the Longhorn Power Lifting Championships.
The athletes did very well and came back with the first place team trophy.
Individual lifters were able to set records and place high in their weight categories.
Shawn Frasquillo placed first in the 165-pound class and set an American record in the bench press with a lift of 358 pounds and a 1,295-pound total.
Royan Cerda set state records in the bench, squat and deadlift in the 148-pound class for a total of 874.5 pounds.
Jason Berger took second place in the raw lifts in the 198-pound weight class with a 1,320-pound total. Bryan Barrett also took second place in the raw lift category in the 220-pound class with a total of 1,309 pounds.
Robert Pena took fifth in that 220-pound class with a total of 1,232 pounds, while Ramiro Espinoza took first in the raw lift in the 181-pound class with a total of 1,171.5 pounds.
Chris Martinez gathered third place in the 220-pound class with a total of 1,243 pounds.
Joe Lucio competed in the Masters level and took first place in the 198-pound class with a total of 1,023 pounds.
Jake Rodriguez lifted in the 181-pound raw lift category and took third with a total of 990 pounds.
Jesse Portillo lifted in the super heavyweight class and placed first with a total of 1,358.5 pounds.
