HS Basketball: Lady Rattlers split games at Marble Falls Tournament
Marble Falls — Tournaments are a good way for teams to see different levels of competition and talent.
The San Marcos girls traveled to the Marble Falls tournament and saw two ends of the spectrum in successive games. The Lady Rattlers fell to a much-taller Leander team, but thumped a weaker Austin Reagan.
After only scoring three points in the first quarter against the Lady Lions, San Marcos stormed back in the second. The Lady Rattlers posted 14 points and cut the Leander lead to 22-17.
The Lady Lions pulled away in the third quarter, but San Marcos wouldn’t be deterred. The Lady Rattlers scored 18 points in a spirited fourth quarter, but fell just short of the win.
San Marcos lost to Leander, 46-42.
The Lady Rattlers recovered from the loss to hand the Lady Raiders a lopsided loss.
San Marcos’ defense limited Reagan to five points in the entire game. The Lady Raiders scored all five of their points in the fourth quarter on one field goal and three free throws.
The Lady Rattlers beat Reagan 53-5.
Madelyn Swinney scored 31 points in two games to lead San Marcos, while Ashley Crayton added 11.
The Lady Rattlers wrapped up the tournament yesterday morning in the consolation semifinals.

San Marcos Academy and Temple Holy Trinity were locked in a close battle at halftime Friday night.
The Lady Bears used a nine-point run in the third quarter to pull away from Trinity. SMA won 39-26.
