SEGUIN — The San Marcos Rattlers had four players post double figures, but an inability to slow down Seguin in the fourth quarter proved costly for the Snakes in a 55-47 loss Monday night.
San Marcos was down by only one point before the Matadors outscored the Rattlers 22-15 in the final frame for the victory.
Sophomore guard Colin Hart led the Rattlers with 13 points, while Chris Threadgill scored 11 and Alex Austin and D.J. Gardner had 10 points each. Seguin (8-9) got a game-high 17 points from Jason Evan and 10 points from Zachary Cresap, as Seguin had eight different players score points compared to five for the Rattlers. Hunter Burttschell was the fifth Rattler in the book with three points.
San Marcos (7-8) is back in action Monday, Dec. 28 when the team begins play in the Boerne ISD Tournament against New Braunfels-Canyon.
Lady Rebels win in overtime
MANOR — The Hays Lady Rebels were able to remain undefeated in District 17-4A play in dramatic fashion Monday night, holding off Manor for a 53-49 overtime win.
The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 12-9 lead after the first period, but stalled a bit offensively in the second and third, combining for only 16 points that allowed Manor to take a 29-28 lead going into the final frame. Hays then outscored the Lady Mustangs 15-14 to force the game into overtime.
That’s where the Lady Rebels went on a 10-6 run to claim the victory.
Angeleigh Davis led the Lady Rebels with 18 points, while Chrissy Arias was the second player on the team in double figures with 10 points.
Hays (10-6, 3-0) is back in action Monday, Dec. 28 when the team opens play at the Blackmon Tournament in Bastrop.
