Kyle —
Area drivers will be back on the track this weekend as Thunderhill Raceway hosts a 10-division card this weekend at the 3/8-mile asphalt oval track in Kyle.
The pro modified class will be the featured class of the night, with out-of-car driver introductions taking place before the feature race. Austin’s Michael Umscheid, who took first place two weeks ago in the SportMod feature at Thunderhill, is the points leader in the Pro Modified division. Umscheid, who drives the No. 5 car holds a 25-point lead over Jason Morman and his No. 33 car. Justin Long, driving the No. 42 car, is five points behind Morman in third.
Always popular with the fans, the TSRS Late Model are also scheduled to run this weekend. Comfort’s Bobby Teer Jr. will be looking to grab another checkered flag after winning the TSRS Late Model feature two weeks ago and currently holds a sound lead in the points standings (1,255), leading Robert Barker by 195 points (1,060). Jeff O’Neill is currently third in the points standings at 1,048.
The ASA A-Line Super Stocks are traditionally the most competitive class at THR and this season is no different. Volente’s Clint LaFont claimed the checkered flag in the last feature race, finishing just ahead of Paige rookie driver Mason Teague. LaFont (787 points) holds a slim lead over Teague (762) in the overall standings going into this weekend’s race.
Another close points battle is in the Thunder Stock Division with Aaron Brungot (745) holding a 16-point lead over Bartlett’s Joey Tschoerner. Tschoerner was the victor in the Thunder Stock feature with Brungot taking third.
The TSRS Allison Legacys are also scheduled to run Saturday night, as Round Rock’s Charles Aikin (1,220 points ) attempts to keep his comfortable lead in the standings over Spring Branch’s Cole Runco (1,065). Boerne’s Dillon Spreen won the last Allison Legacy feature at Thunderhill.
New Braunfels’ Bobby Chaffee trimmed Boerne’s Brandon Spreen’s points lead in the Mini Stocks by claiming the checkered flag two weeks ago, while Lockhart’s Jon Fernandez will be looking for his second consecutive win at THR in the Bandolero Division.
In the wild and crazy Grand Stock Division, Cedar Creek’s Marcia Moore will attempt to keep a solid grasp on first place in the standings and is coming off a feature win two weeks ago.
Also on the card Saturday night are the Texas Pro Sedans, the oldest touring series in the State of Texas, as well as the NasKart division.
