Six-Man Football: SMACC Panthers go 2-0 at home

San Marcos — The San Marcos Area Christian Competitors’ varsity six-man football team improved to 2-0 while remaining undefeated at their new home field at the Gil Payton CFPO Football Complex with a 48-0, mercy-rule win over Stephenville Faith Friday night.

In six-man, the mercy rule is applied if a team is ahead by 45 points or more at halftime or anytime after. Friday’s game was stopped with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter after Adam Bryant came through with a 51-yard touchdown run for his third score of the game.

The Panthers first unleashed their offense in the first quarter as Andrew Hall capped the opening drive with a 16-yard touchdown run.

Adam Chapman helped the Panthers go up 14-0 after he came through with a 20-yard run and the ensuing two-point conversion.

Bryant opened the second quarter with a 1-yard run to put SMACC up 14-0 as Chapman came through with a blocked punt moments later to give the Panthers possession at the Knights’ 12-yard line. Two plays later,  Bryant rumbled into the end zone to give his team a 26-0 lead.

Chapman scored his second touchdown of the game with a 40-yard run that gave the Panthers a 34-0 advantage at the half.

While bench players got into the action for a scoreless third quarter, the Panther offense was back on track with a pair of touchdowns early in the fourth. Andre Hall scored the first tally on a 70-yard run, while Bryan followed with his 51-yard jaunt to end the game.

The Panthers (2-0) are back in action Friday evening with a 5 p.m. game at Sunnybrook Academy in San Antonio.
