High School Volleyball: Lady Rams score big win in front of large home crowd

From staff reports

San Marcos — Playing in their own court proved to be beneficial for the Hill Country Christian School volleyball team last weekend as the Lady Rams recorded a 3-0 win over First Baptist Academy (25-20, 25-26, 25-19) in front of their largest home crowd of the season.

A sweep looked questionable as HCCS fell behind 9-0 in the third set, but the Lady Rams kept their composure and climbed back behind an eight-point serving streak from junior Alyssa West.

With momentum on their side, the Lady Rams outscored FBA 17-10 down the stretch for sweep.

West finished the match hitting 20 of 21 serves with two aces, while freshman Ariana Rehm led the team with five aces and senior Amy Norvell came through with five aces for the Lady Rams.

Norvell led the team with 10 kills while Rehm had five kills and guided the offense with 10 assists. The pair also stood out on the defensive side, as Norvell came through with 12 digs and Rehm had 10.

Freshman Amanda Duggins led the team with two bocks.

“The girls had one of their best matches, and it was in front of the most fans they've ever had show up for a game, so there was so much excitement in our gym and the girls really shined for the occasion,” HCCS head coach Lolly Williamson said. “One of our goals was to get better at defense and that'’s exactly what they did. We more than  30 digs which was a new record for us and I couldn't be any more proud.”

The HCCS junior-varsity squad also came through with a win, beating the Lady Eagles, 25-12, 25-15.

The Lady Rams will return to the court on tonight when they play their last non-district against San Antonio-New Life Christian

HCCS opens district play Thursday at home against Seguin-Lifegate.
