High School Athletics: SMHS to join big boys next year in jump to Class 6A

Daily Record Sports

Last week, the University Interscholastic League released its official cutoff for the upcoming 2016 reclassifications and district realignments in January.

The cutoff numbers refer to the minimum number of enrolled students that qualify a school for a specific classification (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A)

The cutoff numbers for 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 are as follows:

6A: 2,150 and above

5A: 1,100 to 2,149

4A: 480 to 1,099

Outdoors: Hunting season is in full swing, but the fish are bitting as well

I know it’s hunting time in Texas.

The deer season is in full swing.  Soon, the runt will kick in on south Texas ranches.  Ducks and geese are pouring onto Texas on the wings of recent cold fronts. I have been chasing those ducks almost every day.

But we need more days in a week because it’s an awesome time to fish. Bass fishing is good in all our local lakes, but the Texas bays and flats are on fire with hungry fish.
