College Football: State to begin beer and wine sales during football games

Texas State will sell beer and wine during football games starting this fall.

Following a "successful" implementation of beer and wine sales for baseball and softball, according to the University, Bobcat Stadium will add the new beverage options for football.

College Football: Williams ruled ineligible by NCAA

Texas State's roster took yet another blow this weekend.

Freshman quarterback Devin Williams announced via Twitter that he will no longer be attending Texas State this fall following a decision by the NCAA. The Mansfield native had been sitting out of Texas State's fall camp as he awaited his decision from the NCAA concerning his eligibility.

Williams classifies as a "non-qualifier" meaning he did not have the grades to enroll at the university.

High School Football: Turnovers sting San Marcos in loss to East Central

San Marcos began the season with a 40-21 loss to East Central on  Friday  in San Antonio.

Here are three takeaways from the Rattlers’ season-opener:

1. Turnovers prove costly

San Marcos began the game with a quick offensive drive into East Central territory. The Rattlers were able to convert a fourth down attempt with a pass from senior quarterback Tyler Moreno to senior tight end Robert Marchan. But Marchan fumbled the ball.

College Volleyball: Texas State embraces the wild West

This season the Sun Belt looks a little different.

With the addition of Coastal Carolina, volleyball is split into two divisions this year, East and West. The East division hosts the newcomer Chanticleers who also happen to be the preseason favorite to win the division.

The West is a different story.

Get to know: East Central's Joe Hubbard

San Marcos begins its 2016 campaign against East Central on Friday at 7:30 p.m. To preview the game, the Daily Record talked to Hornets head coach Joe Hubbard. 

Hubbard is entering his first season as East Central’s head coach. He spent the last 13 years as an assistant coach at Garland. 

Hubbard talked about his team in a Q&A with the Record.
