High School Football: Rattlers clinch playoff berth with 17-14 win against Manor

San Marcos’ defense ran off the field in jubilation as the chains were stretched late in the fourth quarter during its game against Manor. The Rattlers held the Mustangs on fourth down to secure a 17-14 win Friday. 

San Marcos (5-3, 3-0 14-6A) secured a playoff spot with its win over Manor (1-7, 0-3). Now the Rattlers have their eyes on contending for a district championship.

“(The win) feels great,” head coach Mark Soto said. “The focus right now is definitely winning the district. We want to finish up strong.”

College Football: Offense runs dry in State's loss to UL Lafayette

Texas State (2-5, 0-3 in the Sun Belt) couldn’t reverse its fortunes against Louisiana Lafayette (3-4, 2-2 in the Sun Belt) Saturday night.

After scoring on their opening possession, the Bobcats were shutout for the remainder of the game during their 27-3 homecoming loss to the Ragin’ Cajuns inside Bobcat Stadium.

UL-Lafayette added another touchdown with an 18-yard scoring pass to Keenan Barnes. 

Update (8:35): End of the 3rd Quarter: UL-Lafayette 20, Texas State 3

The Ragin Cajun's added to their lead with a one-yard touchdown run by senior running back Elijah McGuire. 

Bobcats trail 20-3 entering the final quarter.

High School Football: Rattlers grind out 17-14 win over Manor, secure playoff spot

San Marcos (5-3, 3-0 14-6A) fought its way to a 17-14 win over Manor (1-7, 0-3) on Friday.

The Rattler defense put together another strong performance, while the offense did enough to pull out the win against the Mustangs.

Here are three takeaways from the Rattlers’ 17-14 win against the Mustangs:
