College Softball: Texas State seeks more offense in series against South Alabama

Ricci Woodard likes what she sees from her hitters in practice.
 
She has for a while.
 
Now, it’s about bridging the gap between practice and the game. 
 
This isn’t groundbreaking news: Texas State has one of the best pitching staffs in the Sun Belt but one of the worst offenses in the league.
 
At least that’s what the statistics say.

Mike Akers used to talk about winning tournaments all the time.
 
Then he stopped and guess what happened? Texas State went through a long winless drought.
 
Twenty-five straight tournaments without tasting victory to be exact.
 
So shortly after the Bobcats arrived on Florida’s Gulf Coast for this week’s Sun Belt Tournament, Akers decided to shake it up and brought his unofficial no talking about winning ban to a close.

Water polo was always a goal of Skip Gilkerson’s, which meant it had to happen.
 
Tonight San Marcos will play its first-ever water polo match against Austin-Anderson High School inside the Lee and Joe Jamail Swimming Center at the University of Texas. The girls will start at 7:15 p.m. with the boys following at 8 p.m.
 
Dreaming big was always in Skip Gilkerson’s nature.
