9/11 remembrance ceremony is Sunday

Fifteen years have passed, but the memories are still strong. 

San Marcos, along with the rest of the nation, watched in horror as one, then another airplane hit the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, a third crashed into the Pentagon and a fourth crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers challenged the hijackers.

Mayor will not seek re-election

San Marcos Mayor Daniel Guerrero will not be seeking a fourth term this November. 

During his tenure, Guerrero served as a member of the city council for four years and mayor for six years. 

“It was working with just a world-class staff for a world-class community,” Guerrero said when asked to sum up his experience. “That’s been what my experience has been over the last 12 years. San Marcos has some of the best people in their field, working on behalf of a community that is evolving. It’s an exciting time to be in San Marcos.” 

City votes to stay in Lone Star Rail project

San Marcos City Council voted unanimously to continue their support of the Lone Start Rail District for a commuter rail through Central Texas this week.

Mayor Daniel Guerrero will take the city’s decision and recommendation to the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) meeting in August, where board members, including himself, will be voting on whether or not to continue their membership with Lone Star Rail.
