One dead in Driftwood fire

A woman died in a mobile home fire in Driftwood on Nov. 15.

According to a press release from Hays County, at approximately 1 a.m. on Nov. 15 a fire was reported at 100 Buckskin Pass, in the Rolling Oaks subdivision, in Driftwood. A mobile home was found fully engulfed in flames. Responders included North Hays County Fire and Rescue, the Kyle Fire Department, the Wimberley Fire Department and the Hays County Fire Marshal’s Office. Approximately 11 vehicles and 24 responders were on the scene.

Nelva Joyce Roberson, age 74, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Terry Kyle. Next of kin has been notified. Dale Alton Roberson, age 81, was taken to Seton Hospital with second-degree burns over approximately 5 percent of his body. He is expected to recover and be released Nov. 15. Mr. Roberson is a former owner of and reporter for the Dripping Springs News-Dispatch.

County officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but that foul play was not suspected. The mobile home was considered a total loss valued at approximately $180,000.

No other information is available pending the Fire Marshal’s receipt of additional information.
