SMPD makes 2 overnight arrests, says no police-involved shooting

Tuesday, February 25, 2020

San Marcos police made two overnight arrests in separate evading police incidents.

“Our officers were involved in two separate vehicle pursuits around midnight, but no gunshots were fired during those incidents,” San Marcos Police Department Interim Chief Bob Klett said, adding that social media posts stating that there was a police-involved shooting were false.

Police arrested Aubrianna Alvarez, 20, in the 1400 block of Craddock Avenue after officers performed a high-risk stop on a gray 2016 Buick Enclave, SMPD said. Officials say Alvarez stopped and proceeded to back her vehicle into a patrol car and fled. She was stopped for a second time, where officers broke her window and she was removed from her car. Alvarez was not injured in the incident, SMPD said.

Alvarez was taken to the Hays County Jail, where she was charged with assault on a public servant, reckless driving, evading with a vehicle, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. She was released on two surety bonds and three personal recognizance bonds, totaling $56,000.

Police made a second arrest in the 1700 block of Old Ranch Road 12 after Elijah Montez, 19, evaded police. Officials say they stopped a 2008 silver Infiniti G35 at approximately 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Montez fled the scene and led officers on a pursuit, where he drove over sidewalks, through grass behind an apartment complex and struck a concrete raised sidewalk before fleeing on foot, officials said. Police tased Montez and he was arrested.

Montez was booked in the Hays County Jail and charged with evading with a vehicle, evading, possession of marijuana and reckless driving. He was released on two surety bonds totaling $4,000.
