Donte Williams, 24 and Timothy Thompson, 22.

Two arrested after weekend car chase

Monday, January 27, 2020

The San Marcos and New Braunfels Police Departments have charged two men after they stole two vehicles and attempted to evade officers.

NBPD was called to the Bluebonnet Dodge overflow parking in the 1200 block of South Business 35 in New Braunfels at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Sunday after a witness saw three Dodge Durangos being stolen from the lot.

Officers located the vehicles traveling north on I-35 and all three vehicles ignored attempts to initiate a traffic stop, police said. One of the vehicles was able to evade police when it suddenly turned off the highway just north of Watson Lane, while the other two continued north into San Marcos.

The San Marcos Police Department received notification from NBPD that their officers were following the durangos on I-35 at approximately 7:44 a.m. The two vehicles entered San Marcos jurisdiction shortly after.

SMPD officers spotted both vehicles on I-35 near the exits on Centerpoint Road and McCarty Lane. Officials said the two vehicles exited at Wonder World Drive as San Marcos police began to catch up with the suspects.

One vehicle driven by Donte Williams, 24, turned right onto Wonder World and then left onto Leah Avenue, police said. Williams cut through an open field and crashed the vehicle through a privacy fence at the Palazzo Apartments — 1011 Wonder World Dr. Officials say Williams exited the vehicle and attempted to run on foot before he was eventually detained by SMPD officers. Following his arrest, officers located a loaded .38 caliber revolver on Williams’ person, police said.

The second vehicle — driven by Timothy Thompson, 22 — exited Wonder World and swiftly turned onto a grass median near Chick-Fil-A, 2213 S. I-35. Police said Thompson exited the vehicle and attempted to run on foot but was detained by SMPD officers.

Williams, Thompson and the vehicles were released to NBPD. The two men are facing pending charges for the offenses that occurred in San Marcos, which include evading by motor vehicle and evading on foot. Williams is facing an additional charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon after officials discovered that he has a warrant out for aggravated robbery in Houston. He also has a warrant out for his arrest for aggravated kidnapping out of Harris County.

NBPD officials said the third stolen vehicle was discovered by the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office after it was found abandoned along State Highway 123.

NBPD’s Criminal Investigations Division is continuing the investigation into Sunday’s incident.
