It was a celebration — the christening of the new Ivar’s Mermaid Patio — marking the beginning of many Mermaid moments to come. On Thursday, members of the community turned out for the first ever Mermaid Capital of Texas Fest — Pep Rally at Ivar’s River Pub. Attendees celebrated the upcoming festival and San Marcos's designation as the Mermaid Capital of Texas.

Shoppers turn out at outlet malls for annual sales tax holiday

The COVID-19 pandemic didn't stop shoppers from visiting the outlet malls in San Marcos this weekend during the state's annual August sales tax holiday. Texans were able to save on certain clothing items, footwear, backpacks and school supplies during the tax holiday, which began Friday and ends on Sunday. Daily Record photos by Colton Ashbranner
