218 Co-op features two new artists

Friday, March 1, 2019

The Member-Artists from 218 Co-op Gallery are pleased to announce the addition of Kitty Myles and Susan Best to their artist cooperative.

Mixed media artist and painter Susan Best has recently started exhibiting her paintings in the gallery. Best's art combines pieces of the past such as paper ephemera, vintage textiles and abandoned family photos. She incorporates these bits and pieces into beautiful abstract paintings that evoke narratives of time and place. The Co-op owners are excited to be able to spotlight her work through March and look forward to having her work as part of the gallery in the future.

An art installation at 218 Co-op Gallery by new Member-Artist Kitty Myles.

The gallery’s newest Member-Artist, Kitty Myles, creates lovely pen and ink works on paper using a stippling technique where tens of thousands of tiny dots become recognizable portraits of people and animals. Myles also recently spent an entire Sunday building a beautiful and thought-provoking installation of fuschia thread and vintage keys in one of the gallery’s front display windows. It is lovely to behold and worth coming into the gallery to fully experience the energy of the piece before it disappears.

218 Co-op Gallery at 218 N. Guadalupe is a collection of San Marcos area artists who have come together to create a unique exhibit and shop space. Housed in an historic downtown building just one block off the courthouse square, the gallery features an eclectic mix of paintings, sculpture, functional wares and adornment.
