Some of San Marcos' favorite local artists will be ruffling some pages up at the San Marcos Public Library tomorrow during the pop-up art show “One For the Books.”

Art, music and poetry will be on display at the library on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. for a free pop-up art show that features artists Furly Travis, Molly Hayes, Debangana Banerjee, Kelsey Huckaby and Tony Belmonte.

Travis is a local artist that works primarily with acrylics. His art is often full of bright colors, even if the subject isn’t necessarily – though some are, with eccentric paintings of pets and people and such. His work is often surreal with motion being painted into the lines.

Hayes, a visual artist and musician, will also be showing her works and performing her original songs at the pop-up art show. Hayes works primarily with watercolor and acrylics. Her works revolve around nature’s patterns, using mandalas and flower patterns.

Banerjee will be displaying her elaborate prints and paintings as well as performing some of her poetry live at the pop-up event. Banerjee  was born in Santiniketan, India. She has a BFA and MFA in printmaking and is a published poet. She co-curated the art exhibition "Shilpa: Colors of India-Pakistan-Bangladesh" at the Walker’s Gallery in San Marcos in 2012, as well as solo exhibitions at Zosima Gallery and Bower Bird Gallery in San Marcos in 2014. In her work she uses printmaking, collage and painting.

Huckaby is a Central Texas artist that has been a local arts organizer for arts markets like Art Squared, Art Haus at Pour Haus and First Sunday San Market. She paints with vivid colors and uses nature-centric imagery in all her paintings.

Belmonte was born in Spain before moving to America in 1985 at the age of 10. His work draws from surrealism and cubism – using movement, perspective and strong colors to define his paintings.

According to Huckaby, art and the library share a commonality – they are windows to different perspectives.

“Art is something that allows you to see things through someone else’s eyes – you can understand a little more about India looking at Banerjee’s pieces or Spain looking at Tony’s pieces,” Huckaby said. “It’s a great way to connect and it’s great we can have this at the library.”

All the artists will be showcasing their prints and originals at the reception and a small collection will be held in the display case for the month of August, for those that can’t make it to the reception.

The art at the “One For the Books” pop-up art show will  all be for sale and contact information for the artists will be next to each work, for those interested in purchasing. For more information call 512-393-8200.
