The Texas State University Opera Theatre presents its first production of the year, "Mad Scenes," that will run through Sunday in Evans Auditorium, 627 N. LBJ Drive.

Witness the madness of humanity in a collection of scenes from Broadway to opera and from comedy to tragedy. Scenes will include numbers from "Don Quichotte," "The Last Five Years," "Dialogues of the Carmelites," "The Light in the Piazza," "The Elixir of Love" and more. The Opera Theatre is proudly joined by members of the Comedy Association of Texas State, who will keep the audience laughing between the scenes.

La belle Dulcinée (Maeli Gonzalez) laughs with the chorus over Don Quichotte's proposal of marriage during a duet from the five act opera "Don Quichotte" for the production "Mad Scenes" by the Texas State Opera Theater at Evans Auditorium.

“It’s going to be a fantastic combination of beautiful singing, moving acting and lots of laughs," Director of Opera Studies at Texas State Dr. Marc Reynolds said. "Whether you are new to opera, looking for live entertainment for your family, or if you are an opera aficionado, this show is for you.”

This production will mark the first with Reynolds at the helm.

Pompeo's widow Cornelia (Andee Winn) and her son Sesto ( Hunter Sabin) bemoan their respective imprisonments in "Son nata a lagrimar," during a scene from the opera "Giulia Cesare."

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18-20, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Oct. 21. This event is open to the public and tickets may be purchased in advance at www.txstatepresents.com or at the box office beginning one hour before the show.
