Art Squared returns this weekend

Summer will be almost here when the Art Squared Arts Market returns on Saturday, June 9, but it will still be a cool place to be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hays County Courthouse lawn in downtown San Marcos. This free event features dozens of artists exhibiting and selling their works, as well as live music from 1 - 3 p.m. Experience a wide selection of handcrafted works by local artists, including ceramics, glass, metalwork, photography, wood, drawings and pastels, jewelry, sculpture, leather, painting and mixed media. The featured artist for June will be woodworking artist Patrick Page-Sutter. Page-Sutter created the name Sutter-Craft to identify and brand his one-of-a-kind furniture and home décor items. All his pieces are created from hardwoods, utilizing traditional woodworking techniques. Each item is unique and handcrafted, including tables, lamps, cutting boards and other décor items for the home. All items are produced in his woodworking and fabrication shop A table created by Patrick in Natalia, Texas. View his work online at suttercraft.com. Page-Sutter. They will delight with their unique mix of blues, swing and folk tunes, often accompanied with a twist of humor. Their musical repertoire ranges from Weinberg's original songs, to classics tunes like “Summertime” and “What a Wonderful World,” to lesser-known songs deserving of wider recognition. Their sound may remind you at times of various performers, but in reality, they sound like no one but themselves. The featured community organization of June will be the San Marcos Lions Club. They are best known for running the Lions Club Tube Rental and River Shuttle that’s so popular for summer recreation on the San Marcos River. What many people don’t know is that these are fundraising projects; all the profits from the tube rental allow the Lions Clubs to support dozens of charities providing educational opportunities for students and other valuable services within the local community. Learn more about the valuable work they do and the community groups they support at their website tubesanmarcos.com. Children will also have the opportunity to explore their creative side at the Kid’s Craft Table. Each month they can experience a different art activity that will stimulate their creativity and allow them to create a unique piece of art. The Kids’ Craft Table is free and open to kids of all ages. This Saturday the Art Squared Arts Market will offer a free one-hour yoga class starts at 9 a.m. on the Courthouse lawn, led by Nicole Marie and Betsy Robertson, both certified yoga instructors. People with all levels of yoga experience are welcome; the class consists of a gentle yoga appropriate for beginners but offers options for those who want more challenge. If interested, bring a yoga mat; the instructor will have extra mats available to loan, if needed. Art Squared takes place on the second Saturday of every month between March and December. It is sponsored by the San Marcos Art League and funded through memberships, donations and the San Marcos Arts Commission. The Art League’s goal is to create a successful, community-minded event that heightens awareness of the arts in San Marcos. For more information, contact artsquaredsmtx@gmail.com.
