'Black Panther' & 'Coco' double feature Stars & Stripes Drive-In Theatre

All of February, mention "Cinema Club" at the box office and enjoy $6 entry to back-to-back screenings at Central Texas' premiere outdoor theater, Stars & Stripes, nestled just south of San Marcos.

Cinema Club, the regional film society, joins forces with Stars & Stripes Drive-In Theatre to promote two new landmark films: the Marvel Comics superhero film "Black Panther," shown nightly at 7 p.m., followed by "Coco", an animated fantasy rooted in the holiday lore of Dia de los Muertos, at 9:40 p.m.

Until the end of the month, anyone who references "Cinema Club" at the pay booth can watch both films, shown on the same outdoor screen, for the incredible price of $6 a person.

The drive-in theatre sits 15 miles from Texas State University, at 1178 Kroesche Ln, in rural north New Braunfels.

Ryan Smith, owner and creator of Stars & Stripes Drive-In Theatre – which features the largest screens in Texas, at over 90-feetwide – said, "Enjoying this double-feature at the drive-in will be a memorable experience under the stars. We're delighted to collaborate with Cinema Club to encourage filmlovers across the region to come enjoy these fun, compelling, important films."

Andrea Torres, spokeswoman for Cinema Club – a film society with a mission to care both about film and society – praised the arrangement, stating, "To have culturally accurate and respectful representations of people of color in two recent blockbusters is rare and exceptional. These films have had an incredible impact on the communities represented in them. Film studios see that and I think we're at the forefront of a revolutionary time in cinema: when young black and brown children can have a hero who actually looks like them."

Filmgoers at Stars & Stripes tune in to a dedicated radio station, played on each car's radio, to accompany the projected movie. Viewers may watch from the comfort of their car, or bring fold-out chairs. A 50sstyle cafe sells a variety of snacks and drinks, as well.
