Raechel Moose transforms wire and gemstones into wearable works of art
Sunday, October 25, 2020

Raechel Moose has always had a love of stones. Growing up in Franklin, North Carolina, the ‘gem capital of the South,’ the Kyle-based artist and metal worker feels that it’s probably in her blood.

“I have had a love of jewelry for as long as I can remember,” Moose said. “My Nana got me started really young loving jewelry. When I got older, I just knew that's what I had to do someday. And now I'm here.”

Though Moose has been making art her whole life, she officially transitioned into work as a full-time artist in 2017. In addition to the intricate metal-and-gems work of her jewelry, Moose also crochets, makes collages and ceramics as well.

“I love creating things with my hands,” Moose said. “I pour love into everything I do. It just feels so good to do things that are a positive in this uncertain world.”

In her effort to put more positivity into the world, Moose recently created an Etsy shop called Creations of Love and Light, her homebase online for sharing her metalwork creations. Moose uses a variety of polished stones such as amethysts, garnets, tiger’s eye and moonstones wrapped with upcycled solid copper or sterling silver wire. For her earring hooks, she uses sterling silver so that they are hypoallergenic and can be worn by practically everyone.

In addition to her art, Moose is spiritual on many levels and believes in a lot of different things, including the power of threes. “I’m level 33 in this life,” Moose said. “I’m the third born. I myself have three kids. My favorite number is three.”

Other things Moose loves: The color rainbow, her husband, who she calls ‘a wonderful dude’ and roller skating. In fact, she helped start the San Marcos River Rollers derby league.

And she loves all things related to art. “Making things with my hands is my calling,” Moose said.
