Fire Station #1 wins Partner of the Month Award

Thursday, June 6, 2019

The San Marcos Main Street Program has designated San Marcos Fire Station #1 Partner of the Month for May to celebrate the Fire Department’s commitment to public safety and community engagement.

The distinction, formerly Business of the Month, is a new label that has been expanded to encompass both hardworking small businesses and nonprofit or public service organizations.

Fire Station #1 has served San Marcos from its current location since 1968, protecting residents from fires and other public safety concerns. The fire department also sponsors a Citizen and Junior Fire Academy, a home smoke detector program, visits schools, hosts tours of the station and participates in other events to educate the public about fire safety.

Fire Station #1 is located on 114 E. Hutchison St., less than 1,000 feet from the historic downtown Square. Emergency service hours are 24/7, 365 days a year. Their efforts are supported through a variety of engines and vehicles including a 2013 Spartan Class A Pumper (Engine 1), a 2016 Spartan Metro (Engine 2), a Battalion Chief Command Vehicle and a rescue boat.

The San Marcos Main Street Program chooses one downtown establishment each month for the Downtown Partner of the Month award. The award is presented to an institution that exemplifies the following eight criteria: Growth, staying power, innovation, response to adversity, contribution to community-oriented projects, marketing and promotional efforts, curb appeal and beautification. If you know of an organization or group that qualifies as a Partner of the Month based on Main Street’s eight criteria or would like more information you can email mainstreet@sanmarcostx.gov.

In 1986, San Marcos was designated an official Main Street city by the Texas Historical Commission and the National Trust for Historic Preservation and remains one of the oldest Main Street programs in the state. The vision of the Main Street Program is to foster a downtown that is a unique and culturally vibrant destination, where local businesses thrive and people of all ages can connect, create and celebrate.
