Houston artist Robyn Crowell makes debut in Central Texas

Friday, February 21, 2020

Abstract artist Robyn Crowell is set to make her debut in Central Texas at the San Marcos Art Center.

The Houston-based artist’s collection, “Collective Premonitions” is described by the artist as “a transparent journey through my mind” and is inspired by famous cubist Pablo Picasso.

“I am probably the biggest Picasso fan you will ever meet,” Crowell said. “I also am greatly influenced by Joan Miro and Juan Gris. I would love to create freely like Joan Mitchell. She revolutionized Modern Art for the world and women.”

Crowell began her journey as an artist at an early age.

“I was 5 when I picked up a brush with my mom” Crowell said. “I have always been in love with having anything that transfers color to paper in my hands — crayons, watercolor, paint; even lipstick. My world would be terrible without expression through color and prints.”

Crowell has continued her journey in the arts and is now a full-time abstract artist.

“I can say I have lived and accomplished childhood dreams and surpassed my own expectations. All I have ever wanted is to make art,” Crowell aid. “I have taken my art from ‘timid play’ to exciting unapologetic art that speaks to the subconscious. I am always experimenting and waiting to see what happens next.”

Crowell has been the cover story for the Pecan Grove neighborhood magazine and on the front page in a local newspaper, as well as the Houston Voyage Magazine. Crowell recently directed one of the biggest juried art shows in Sugar Land, Texas, with over 26 Houston artists.

“Art brings people together. From this event I brought to life an artist club called The Mad Masters," Crowell said. "We are an artist guild that learns, supports and networks with each other to promote success and encouragement for one another.”

The San Marcos Art League (SMAL) is ecstatic to bring Crowell to the San Marcos Art Center for her opening reception on Friday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. at 117 N. Guadalupe St.

Food, drinks and music will be provided. Patrons will also be able to meet the artist and purchase her work.
