Joe Urbach to speak at Spring Lake Garden Club
Joe Urbach, gardening columnist for the San Marcos Daily Record, will be the guest speaker for the February meeting of the Spring Lake Garden Club.
Included in his presentation will be various gardening topics and the health benefits derived from gardening.
The Spring Lake Garden Club's monthly meeting is Thursday, Feb. 14, from 9:15-11:30 a.m. at McCoy’s Headquarters Conference Room, located at 1350 North Interstate 35 on the east access road.
Urbach is a Certified Texas Master Gardener and author of the popular Phytonutrient Gardening series. Local gardeners are familiar with Urbach from his weekly gardening column appearing in the Sunday edition of the San Marcos Daily Record.
In addition, Urbach has written 10 books on phytonutrient gardening. He explains the concept as “When growing a vegetable in your garden, consider growing the variety that packs the biggest nutritional value.”
Spring Lake Garden Club is open to women and men interested in increasing their knowledge of gardening especially concerning the gardening conditions and opportunities of the local area. Visitors and new members are always welcome.
One ongoing project by the club is the selection of A Yard of the Month. An article and photos of the selected home site are publicized monthly in the San Marcos Daily Record. Other community projects include support of the Hays County Food Bank. For more information, go to Spring Lake Garden Club's website.
