At the recent San Marcos Kiwanis Club annual officer installation and awards banquet, attendees were expecting the customary speeches and awards, but they were not expecting to be entertained. Listed only as "A Big Surprise" in the printed program. A stealth committee of four Kiwanians secretly booked the Heart Of Texas Chorus to provide entertainment for the evening.

Since entertainment is not normally part of the event, members were not only surprised, they were enthusiastic in their praise for the surprise performers. Past Kiwanis President Del Brown said, "It was truly an impeccable performance!" Veteran singer John Polk said, "I found no imperfections in the harmonies and would support a repeat performance!" In addition to the quality of the music, Doug Balkman said the performers did a great job presenting the songs. Without exception, the members agreed that it was professionally done and the song selections were exceptional.

The Heart Of Texas Chorus has a busy December Christmas Caroling schedule, but would be interested in booking even more performances, as their schedule allows. The chorus is inviting area singers to attend rehearsals, enjoy singing favorite songs of the season and spreading Christmas cheer. The chorus rehearses Thursday evenings, 7 p.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church, 129 West Hutchinson Street in downtown San Marcos.
