Rotary San Marcos volunteers to pack 15,000 meals on World Food Day in partnership with Rise Against Hunger

Sunday, October 17, 2021

The Rotary Club of San Marcos, Kyle and Wimberly worked together Saturday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to pack 15,000 meals at First Lutheran Church. The meals were shipped to hunger-challenged people in East Africa.

This is a partnership that Rotary has forged with the international nonprofit organization Rise Against Hunger. The work day coincided with World Food Day. Rotary will also collect nonperishable food items for the Hays County Food Bank.

“We are exceptionally proud of our partnership with Rise Against Hunger,” said Dr. Bruce Smith, president of Rotary Club San Marcos. “It is particularly momentous as we are performing such an important service during the Club’s 100th anniversary.”

“They have shown great pride in our organization and its ideals of serving others,” Dr. Smith said. The club hopes to attract corporate sponsors so that they can continue events like this.

Texas State University’s Rotaract chapter has been activated through this program. Abigail Weltner, a leader of the group said, “The Rotary Club gives back to its community, and that’s something I myself really enjoy and cherish.”
