First Sunday San Market

New to San Marcos this year, the First Sunday San Market is set to kick off on Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the The Pita Shop parking lot off of Old Ranch Road 12.

Come shop from art and craft vendors, local farmers and gardeners, and all things San Marcos. So far we've got local tie dye, photography, origami jewelry, a local author and a Chinese Tea Ceremony by Cha Chi Tea just to name a few.

The idea started last year in 2017 with the Multicultural Arts Bazaar put on with the help of The Pita Shop. The Pita Shop is a locally-owned business that local artist and event facilitator Kelsey Huckaby was excited to team up with in an effort to help out some of the local businesses in the area including Shaolin-Do School of Martial Arts and now a new art studio workspace for working artist Jon Imeson called Flux Laser.

The success of the first market encouraged the owners of the Pita Shop to welcome back artists and vendors to share their parking lot for the day. The new monthly event that came forth was The San Market.

Despite Huckaby's background in art curating and personal work as an artist, she wants to keep the spin for this particular event a happy mix of not only artists and craftspeople, but also local farmers, gardeners, local clubs and organizations. Naturally, that means local music as well, so another important facet of the fun is the live music performances that will be taking place at the San Market. The first performer to kick off the music for the new market is Pat Thomas of the Pat Thomas Collective, singer and songwriter local to none other than San Marcos. Music is anticipated to start at 1 p.m.

First Sunday San Market will be a monthly event that takes place on the first Sunday of the month.
