Second annual Tammi Fest

Friday, September 20, 2019

Terri Hendrix and her nonprofit organization Own Your Own Universe (OYOU) invite the whole family to come out and enjoy a full day of music and arts while helping to make a positive difference in the community at the second annual Tammi Fest.

The arts and music festival will be held in the Harper Brothers Building, 417 Main Street in downtown Martindale, on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 1- 6 p.m.

Originally called "Playing for Good," the OYOU's annual fundraiser was renamed “Tammi Fest” in 2018 in honor of Hendrix’s older sister, Tammi Hendrix, who passed away last March. In tribute to her sister, this year’s event features all women musicians — some just beginning their promising careers and others with decades of experience.

"It's important to me to do a festival featuring women in music because in our state, in Texas, a lot of times women in music are not dominate on lineups," Terri Hendrix said. "So I felt it was really importatnt for OYOU to support women in the arts and in particular women musicians... And this is in my sister's honor; my sister passed away in March 2018 and she was a huge music fan and also an artist. So I call it Tammi Fest in her name to help her memory and presence live on."

In addition to a full afternoon of live music, Tammi Fest will feature local visual artists exhibiting fine quality paintings, metal sculptures and professional photography. Featured artists include John Roof, Darin Wood, Carmen Clement, Born in Zorn Metal Sculptures and Chelsea James Photography.

Live music will kick off at 1:30 p.m. with Terri Hendrix, Lloyd Maines and the OYOU Kids Club. At 2 p.m. sets by Kassy Daniel, MariLisa Swain, Vicki Genfan, HalleyAnna Finlay Welch and Juliet McConkey, each accompanied by Hendrix, will begin. And at 4:30 p.m. powerhouse Americana trio hONEyhoUSe will go on.

Activities will include a silent auction with works from these same artists and other one-of-a-kind offerings, a raffle, a kid’s activity corner with free face painting, and a mouth-watering array of eclectic hors d'oeuvres served throughout the day by Culinary Criminals Custom Catering. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be provided, though wine and beer (and more delicious food) can be purchased at the adjacent Martindale River Cafe and Mercantile. And like all OYOU events, Tammi Fest will be fully handicap accessible.

Tickets for Tammi Fest are $30, and free for kids under age 12. Fans who can't attend but who would still like to support the OYOU can purchase $30 "virtual" tickets and be entered into a separate online raffle drawing. For more information and to purchase tickets — including VIP and virtual tickets — visit OYOU's website. Proceeds benefit OYOU's expansion on Willory Farm in Martindale, which Hendrix plans to break ground to build a fully accessible arts center in the coming year.

Located in the Martindale and San Marcos, the mission of the OYOU is to make the arts accessible to everyone. Thier events are created to empower and transform lives by connecting the mind, body and spirit, through music and the creative arts. For more information, go to OYOU's website.
