Spring Lake Garden Club meeting

Spring Lake Garden Club will feature Joe Urbach to discuss phytonutrient gardening at the monthly meeting, March 8. The meeting beginning at 9:15 a.m. will be at McCoy’s Headquarters Conference Room located at 1350 North Interstate 35 on the east access road.

Featured speaker Urbach is the publisher of gardeningaustin.com and the Phytonutrient Blog. He is featured in the San Marcos Daily Record every Sunday for his column "Growth in Gardening." In addition, Urbach has written 10 books on phytonutrient gardening. He explains the concept as “When growing a vegetable in your garden, consider growing the variety that packs the biggest nutritional value!”

Urbach has lived and worked in Central Texas area for over 30 years. He has concentrated his efforts on installing many raised beds and container gardens in Texas homes all over the Austin, San Marcos and San Antonio areas.

Spring Lake Garden Club is open to women and men interested in increasing their knowledge of gardening especially concerning the gardening conditions and opportunities of the local area.

A popular ongoing project by the club is the selection of the Yard of the Month. An article and photos of the selected home site are published monthly in the San Marcos Daily Record. Other community projects include support of the San Marcos Food Bank and the San Marcos Heritage Association through participation in the Cottage Kitchen at the Cock House Museum.

Visitors interested in local gardening methods and issues are always welcome. For more information, go to the garden club's website.
