Valentine's Day Prom at Price Center

San Marcos Cinema Club

This Valentine's Day, the San Marcos Cinema Club will host a multigenerational prom –rooted in notions of inclusivity and fun – and invite the community to join them at the Price Center Ballroom from 7 p.m. to midnight on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Emcees Nix Nova and Jinx Minx will guide the evening, comprised of live music from BluMoon, The Outlook and DJ Dada of Chulita Vinyl Club – aka Cinema Club pioneer Natalia Rocafuerte – comedy from the inimitable Kelly Stone, an art corner for the young ones, local independent short films and a reel of the danciest video clips on repeat.

Punch – both spiked and non-spiked – will be available and attendees are urged to stop by the photo booth for prom pictures. Also, delectable treats from Steger's Chiffonade will be on hand.

Prom tickets are sold at the door for $3 a person or $5 for a couple, with proceeds benefitting the Cinema Club, the nonprofit film society of San Marcos.

The prom also serves as a grand unveiling of the Cinema Club's newest community video challenge, “TWENTY FIVE MILES, DAMN,” inviting one-minute nonfiction submissions from anywhere within 25 miles of San Marcos, with the aim of highlighting the various subcultures and the geographic diversity of our unique region.

Cinema Club co-founder Jordan Buckley said of the prom, "We extend a huge thank you to our metaphorical chaperones, the San Marcos Arts Commission, for generous funding to make this special Valentines evening possible, a loving launch to TWENTY FIVE MILES, DAMN."
