Playing Cards – Fonsia and Weller’s relationship develops as they play gin rummy on the back porch of their nursing home.

Wimberley Players to present The Gin Game

Sunday, January 31, 2021

The Wimberley Players bring live theatre back to the stage – with the option to view from the comfort of your own home. The Gin Game will run on The Wimberley Players’ stage on weekends from Feb. 5–14.

After they meet on the back porch of their nursing home, Fonsia and Weller strike up a friendship. They both have something to offer the other – he teaches her to play gin, and he gives him companionship. Through playing hands of gin, they learn about each other and themselves. Their relationship builds as they play the ultimate game – the game of life.

Fonsia is played by Linda Ford and Weller is played by Michael Howard. Their partnership extends beyond the stage as they are married. Michael and Linda first worked together in 1969 at the First Repertory Company where they performed in shows such as The Glass Menagerie and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.

The Wimberley Players are stepping into the future this season. In 2020, we invested in streaming equipment and will be streaming all of shows this year. That means that you can view high quality live theatre from the comfort of your own home. We have a four camera set-up so you won’t just be staring at a stagnant screen. The show will be streamed live each night. Each show will also have a small live audience with a maximum of 32 seats per show. Seats are set up in socially distanced groups of two or four.

Directed by David Bisett. Executive Producer is Adam Witko. Set/Lighting Design by Kevin Rigdon. Sound Design by Mike August. Video Design by Trish Rigdon. Produced by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
