A call for art focusing on women and their work is underway for a new gallery show coming to the Price Center in conjunction with International Women’s Day, which takes place on March 8. The show, titled “From Challenge Comes Change,” is open to all area women and those who identify as female. Plans call for a virtual and in-person show as well as a virtual celebration on March 8.

Flambé : The 2021 Pantone Color Choices of the Year

Pantone, the gurus of all things color, has selected Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow for the 2021 Colors of the Year. Some headlines call it Pandemic Gray but The Garden Guy loves it and you will see it opens the door to one of the toughest, persevering and award-winning plants of all time, Flambé Yellow chrysocephalum.

Yard of the Month

Jesse Gainer and Nancy Valdez-Gainer were delighted to move in July 2019 to a San Marcos house on Franklin Street near the Texas State campus, especially since the property included a sustainable landscape with many native plants. But then spring 2020 brought a huge surprise when the front lawn became a solid field of bluebonnets. The new owners have added a few of their own touches to the yard, but give full credit to former owners Kris Spilker and Sean McMannnis, for the crowning glory of a space full of Texas bluebonnets.

The Garden Guy fell in love with calendulas a long time ago, and then suddenly they became like the four-leaf clover at the garden center. Hopefully Lady Godiva will change all of that. If you have never grown this Aster family member, you are in for a treat.
