Kyle man dies in weekend hit and run

Tuesday, September 25, 2018

A 32-year-old Kyle man died after he was struck by a pickup truck while walking along Goforth Road east of Kyle Saturday night — although his body wasn’t found until the next morning.

DPS Sgt. Robbie Barrera said her agency was called Sunday morning shortly before 8 a.m. to investigate a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Troopers arriving found the body of Michael Delaney May, who was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Beth Smith at 8:58 a.m.

While on scene, the trooper was approached buy the owner of a nearby Aca Paco, who advised his security cameras had partially caught the crash.

Barrera said the owner “was able to positively identify both the vehicle and the driver. Using the description of the vehicle given by both Hays County deputies and the owner of Aca Paco, a pickup truck was located at 595 Cotton Gin, Kyle, TX, matching that same description, was discovered with damage to the passenger side head lamp and windshield.”

The driver was identified as 22-year-old Tony Alberto Ponce-Zamora of Kyle. Ponce “stated that shortly after the accident had occurred, a Hays County deputy arrived on scene and Ponce failed to notify the deputy that he was involved in an accident.”

Because that information was withheld, Barrera said, May “was not given medical attention and died due to his injuries.”

She said that Ponce has not been charged, but did say the investigation is continuing.
