218 Co-op announces new exhibit, reception

Wednesday, April 10, 2019

San Marcos, TX –The Member-Artists from 218 Co-op Gallery are pleased to have the work of Guest Artists Lenise Perez-Miller and James Miller in the gallery this month.

Mixed media artist and ceramicist Lenise Perez-Miller creates narrative pieces using clay and found objects while redefining their meaning to conjure past memories for her viewers. Sometimes causing contradictions, the combination of feminine and masculine materials helps define the beauty in memories as well as the humor, sadness, innocence and sometimes even cruelty.

James Miller’s current work has grown out of a love for utilitarian objects. Shiny objects, rusted objects, as well as all other surfaces, shapes, and forms are all invited curiosities. His mined objects find themselves near his studio workstation, either at arm’s reach, or not more than two steps away.  From this fodder, he sets to work creating something entirely new, never before imagined.

Their work is on view in the gallery throughout April with a public reception to coincide with the SMTX historic downtown’s Third Thursday Walkabout from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. Artists will be on-hand in the gallery and are scheduled to give an Artist Talk at 7. Hearing directly from the artists about their process and approach is a fun and informative way to better appreciate the works on display. The public is invited to join the Co-op members in welcoming both artists and their work to the gallery.

218 Co-op Gallery, at 218 N. Guadalupe, is a collection of San Marcos area artists who have come together to create a unique exhibit and shop space. Housed in a historic downtown building just one block off the courthouse square, the gallery features an eclectic mix of paintings, sculpture, functional wares and adornment.
